Congratulations America. You played yourself.

donald-trump

We’ve been Trumped.

I woke around 3 a.m. this morning to see the results of this year’s presidential election and I must say this is the most startling year I’ve ever experienced. I know that I’m not alone when I say that Donald Trump’s first appearance on the campaign trail was nothing more than a mere joke to me.

There is no way in hell that this man stands a chance at the White House when we are the self-proclaimed, “land of the free and home of the brave”. Wrong.

There is absolutely no way that a man can win amongst sexual assault allegations and out right  hate for people of color, LGBT, Muslims, women, and the disabled (excuse me if I missed a few but the list is so extensive.) Anyhow, I was wrong about that too.

When I saw the official results I literally cried so much so that I had to call my mother who politely told me that I should try to get some rest but here I am at 4 in the morning writing this. I’ve seen so many jokes on social media about the boat back to Africa and how we should get ready to go back to slavery days but those things aren’t the least bit funny to me. It’s sad.

To see that hundreds of people stated that their vote wasn’t going to count so they didn’t take advantage of that right is sad. To see that there were so many people who wrote in Hennessy and Harambe (a dead gorilla) is down right pitiful. There has been a target on the heads of black people forever, let’s be real. To have  a president that openly shames us and has an utter disdain for people that don’t look like him is frightening because it opens the doors for others to express their same sentiments. In laymen terms, racism is rearing it’s ugly head. Don’t fall for the okie doke.

The fact is that Trump won the popular vote in many states so there are people on our jobs, in our state offices, school systems, state and local governments, and even in your local Starbucks that think like him. They sympethized with his words. His bigotry and hate was the same as theirs.. and that is even scarier. I probably won’t ever see Trump a day in my life, but to know that I’m passing people everyday that support him is a living nightmare.

I challenge you to learn the laws, be cautious about the things  you do, and to cast away ignorance.

“We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” -Martin Luther King Jr.
