Books I’m Reading in 2018

I will be the first person to admit that I do not read as much as I should. It’s really sad because there was a time when you couldn’t pry a book out of my hands for anything in this world. As you get older, it feels like you don’t have time for much… especially reading.

But this year I want to rediscover the book worm within me. I want to make reading a habit again and I started by getting a library card from my local library and making a list of books I want to read this year. All of the authors are African- American with the exception of 2 (in case that matters to you). But I wanted to share my list with you because it’s much easier to complete a goal when you aren’t in it alone. So, I will be documenting my journey through these books and hopefully you will find some interesting to either read along with me or you can keep me updated on your current reads!

  1. I’m Judging You by Luvie Ajayi
  2. You Can’t Touch My Hair by Phoebe Robinson
  3. Go Tell it on the Mountain by James Baldwin
  4. The Hate You Give by Angela Davis
  5. You are a Badass by Jen Sincero
  6. We’re Going to need more Wine by Gabrielle Union
  7. Women, Race, and Class by Angela Davis
  8. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
  9. The Mothers by Brit Bennet
  10. Kindred by Octavia Butler
  11. The Souls of Black Folks by W.E.B. Du Bois
  12. The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
  13. Their Eyes were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
  14. The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley

  1. I read The Bluest Eye in my ENC1102 Class (Famu class of 2021) and it’s honestly a really good read, I wish at the time more of my classmates took it serious

    1. I wish my professor had a reading list for us. And sadly, it’s really hard to get new students to take things seriously πŸ€¦πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ
