The hardest thing about a blog? Writing the “About” page. It’s the one thing that really forces you to think, “who am I?”. Let’s start with the basics.

I was born and raised in Florida. Honor roll student, valedictorian, scholar, community volunteer, etc. All of those are just things that I’ve done. They aren’t who I am. That’s the difference. I’m still on the journey to know who Shaakira is.

When I was 20 years old I decided that I would start a motivational blog, mainly to be able to clear my mind of many thoughts. Since then, this effort has grown into something greater than I first imagined. Although my reasoning for starting the blog may have been selfish, to free myself of my own thoughts, now I can say that I write for you all. The girl with self esteem issues, the woman who’s trying to find God, the lady that’s lost a love that she can’t find anywhere else. This is for you.

Why? Because I have been all of those people and there are still things that I struggle with daily but I would view it as a disservice to the world and a slap in God’s face, for him to give me the guide to overcome all of these things and I not share that same tool with you.

I am your sister, aunt, and friend that you may have never had… I am here to help you. God has given me many gifts, and my goal in life is to use them to put back into the world just as much as I have received.

P.S. I have two podcasts if you’d like to check them out. Carefree and Black Diaries and Black History Moments

-From Me to You, Love.

“My only wish is that when I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me’.”
