Where’s your inner peace?

Next to love and happiness, inner peace is one of the most important things for a person to have. The importance of inner peace is often underrated and undermined. However, it’s significance is tremendously essential to how we go about our daily lives.

“Inner peace (or peace of mind) refers to a state of being mentally and spiritually at peace, with enough knowledge and understanding to keep oneself strong in the face of discord or stress.” [Google’s definition]

I couldn’t agree more. When you have a sense of inner peace, things that would normally upset you throughout the day will eventually become so minuscule that you’ll wonder why you were ever upset by them. You’ll also notice other people stressing about things out of their control and you’ll realize how far you’ve come.

Too often do we let people who do little to nothing for us dictate and effect our emotions. Personally, I am still working on this daily. There are some days where I can feel great, and then someone comes along and says something that sends my mood into a decline. Meanwhile, while I’m upset, that person has gone about they’re day as usual, leaving me to carry the baggage. You have some baggage that others have left with you also; it happens to us all. But continually holding on to it does us no good. It becomes heavier day by day and if we hold on to it long enough, it will make us bitter.

Imagine inner peace as your daily dump truck. At the end of each day, place all of the baggage and trash into the dumpster and allow the inner peace truck to come and discard all of the things that aren’t beneficial to you.  When you wake up the next day, before you immerse yourself into your daily activities, sit and gather your thoughts and allow peace to come over you. Once you’ve discovered this peace, you’ll learn a number of things.

1. Everything is not in under your control

2. Everything is not MEANT to be controlled

3. No one has control over your mood unless you allow them to (My favorite)

Now that we know the significance or importance of inner peace, the next article will discuss how to achieve it.
